My mother says the way to fix an alcoholic is to cut them out of the family until they get help, is she right or does this make it worse?

She keeps reminding me of a woman she knew who went sober after her whole family threatened to leave her but I think that family just got lucky.

Now my Dad is an alcoholic (son-in-law of the grandfather) and my mother is divorcing him.

She insisted on doing this when I was a kid to her father (my grandfather) who was an alcoholic.

So, in my school we have different academies in on in one and he's in a different acadanies . I met him when I walked home one day and since I'm in after school program I barely walk home and I never see him only in the mornings.
