How can I migrate away from my group of friends?

I am very discontented in my current group of friends, but I'm hesitant to distance myself from them at this late stage and I am wondering if I should just hold out for another year until we're mixed up in our class groups.

In my school we have a gap-year in between sophomore and junior years to participate in work experience, attend seminars, etc., and our class groups are mixed up during that year which would give me the opportunity to make new friends.
